Green Rage 7"

The green rage 7" is one of my favorite militant vegan straight edge albums of all time. Justin O'Hare's lyrics seem very real. A lot of people talked about animal liberation at the time, but to me it always seem that Green Rage really fucking meant what they said. with lyrics such as:

"declaration of war. injustice fuels the hate. your evil makes you weak. your evil is my strength."

I have always loved that line, mostly because I have felt that exact  way many times. This album is important for more than just the lyrics. It was an early adopter (1993) of the classic 90s "chugging" style hardcore and in my eyes, nobody does it better. I have an interview coming up with Trevor O'Hare (the singer Justin's brother) talking about the history of Green Rage, so keep and eye out for that. Also, Green Rage made a demo  before this 7", under the name Uprising. To download that, click here.

Pressing Info

This album's pressing info is pretty damn confusing, if I may say so myself. The fact that I don't own a physical copy at the moment doesn't help either. But here is what Ive gathered.

1st Pressing
Conversion Records
Hand numbered out of 100, green or red "militant vegan cover"

2nd pressing
Conversion Records
Black Vinyl and Green Vinyl

After this pressing, it was released strictly under Very Distribution multiple times with these covers:

Macabre (Pre 18 Visions) Demo

Whether you love them or hate them, there is no denying that Eighteen Visions made some awesome Metalcore music in the late 1990s and early 2000s. Before their first release, Lifeless, came out on Life Sentence Records in 1997, They recorded a demo tape under the  name "Macabre".  Macabre was founded in October 1995 by James Hart, Dave Peters, Billy Sisler, and Kenneth Floyd. The band wrote a bit of material and started to play shows, beginning at the "Koo's Cafe", in their local area. Soon after a second guitarist, Jeff Boullt (from Excessive Force), was added to the mix, and in March, Billy left the group and was replaced by Richie Taylor. Richie only lasted a short while, and Javier Van Huss soon took over the bass duties. Later in the year, Jeff also left the band, and Brandan Schieppati was added to complete a first stable line-up. This demo is definitely rough, there is no getting around it, but the more I listen to it, the more I enjoy it. To me it sounds very Excessive Force inspired, featuring tons of awesome mid 90s chugging riffs.

"Before he was into pleather pants and eyeliner, 18 Visions singer Jame Shart (far left) wore JNCOs and Excessive Force shirts just like the rest of us."

PURE - New 6 Song EP

Last night PURE, a new Bay Area straight edge band, opened for Living Eyes and Judge at the Gilman St. Project in Berkley, CA.  Not only was it their second ever show, it was also the release of their new 7" EP. I showed off this 7" in my post about the show, but now that I have one in hand, I am way more stoked on it. There were only 50 of these 7"s made and by the looks of it last night, they are all sold. Just to tease you, Ill tell you that they are very professionally done, from the labels to the hand screen printed cover and that they are all hand numbered. The good news is that this EP is on their bandcamp, so you can listen and purchase a digital copy. I don't have any concrete facts, but I would hope that they will press this 7" again. Im not going to go into reviewing this EP, because that will be featured in the new physical print IYB Fanzine, coming soon!

Together As One... 7"

Pin drop records was a record label ran by one of the guys from the band Holdstrong, Matt Myrdal. The First release on Pin Drop was, not surprisingly, a Holdstrong 7" titled "Gaining Ground". This comp, Together As One, was the second release from the label and surprisingly only had two Pin Drop records bands on it, Holdstrong and Cross Current. The other two bands that appear on this 7" are the infamous Brothers Keeper and Hatebreed. From what I have heard, this Hatebreed track, Mark My Words, May be the first thing Hatebreed ever recorded. There is still a super outdated Pin Drop Records website online from 2000. On that website I found this excerpt about this comp:

"Holdstrong, Brother's Keeper, Crosscurrent, and Hatebreed. Four crazy bands causing mass mayhem. This record just went out of print. As of now there are no plans to do another repress. We don't think there is a hardcore kid in the world that doesn't have this or have a taped copy of this compilation 7". If you are one of the unlucky ones that didn't get a copy we think a couple distros still might have one or two. Write to Very or Temperance."

Pressing info
-Black(blue or yellow cover)
-Translucent Yellow(Pink Cover)

Above is a scan of my copy, which happens to be in the translucent yellow pressing.

Inserts
As far as I know, The inserts are the the same on both pressings. Also, it is not a separate piece of paper, instead its printed on the inside of the 7" cover.

This release is a pretty common 7", but still something that is awesome to own and listen to. If you're interested in buying a physical copy, click here.

Sadly for this release, I do not have a Download link at the moment, BUT if you want to give it a listen, I have made a youtube playlist with all four songs. Check it out below.

The Deathless

The Deathless is an awesome new hardcore Band from Santa Cruz, CA. The band consists of Joe Clements from FURY 66, Felix Lozano and Corey Atkinson from Los Dryheavers, Mike A. and Robert Schmidt. They have an awesome sound somewhere in between FURY 66 and H20, but harder. They are pretty obvious about there beliefs (Buddhism, krishna consciousness etc.) Which is awesome to me. I don't care what the fuck you believe in as long as you truly feel its right and defend it with all you got. Anyways, their debut album is streaming online now, so give it a listen!

From what I know, the album features spoken word from Noah Levine of Dharma Punx. This album will be out next month on Chapter 11 records and it will be pressed on an array of colored 7" vinyl, so make sure to grab it. I will make a post when they are available online.

Torn Apart - Extermination 7"

To start my series of album reviews, why not start with my favorite album of all time. Torn apart was a Straightedge Hardcore band from Baltimore Maryland. This is there first 7" record, but there may have been a demo tape before this. This 7", Extermination, was released by Life Sentence Records in 1995. I contacted the singer, Brett Burnham, for a quote on this album, but he did not get back to me sadly (He is now a tattoo artist and father still in baltimore, check out his instagram). Torn Apart fit into the xLSRx roster perfectly, incorporating metal influences with a hard and angry traditional hardcore style. One thing that did set them apart from the rest of the xLSRx roster was the fact that they were very vocal about animal rights, especially in their song Defenseless (see lyrics bellow). Although Torn Apart released more music after this 7", this will always be my favorite of their catalog. I will upload some of their other releases later.

"The cover of the Extermination 7in is the show we played with Excessive Force/VOD. Brett had an "X" on his hand because we were playing a show at a bar and he was underage. I definitely remember telling him not to use that picture because it'll come off as a "sxe" thing. Devon wanted to use a picture of him with a "drug free" shirt too, not caring if it pegged us as a "sxe" band. I wasn't into categorizing the band. I lost that battle.
But luckily that was about as far as the bickering/disagreement went as far as the "sxe" stuff."
-Drew Lamond (Torn Apart Guitarist)

I have also found some interesting differences between the lyric/thank you inserts included with this 7"

Here is the version that I found scanned on Discogs:

Here is the version that was included on my own personal 2nd pressing black:

Here is the Strangest one; These came with one of my red pressings. This is two separate pieces of paper (I scanned them together).
The Lyric sheet is hand cut with scissors and the thank you sheet is a full piece of printer paper folded into quarters to fit into the 7" sleeve

Thanks for reading!

Well here we go...

In Your Blood is a physical print fanzine covering Hardcore music from the 1990's. There will also be some 1980s and present day content, but the main focus is the 90s. This blog will serve as a way to market the zine' and also put out content more frequently. My name is Jesse Reger and I am from Santa Cruz, CA. I am 20 years old, so I never got the chance to see many of the bands that this fanzine and blog will showcase, but what I lack in experience I make up for in my relentless search for new information, bands and knowledge of the era. I am Straightedge and Vegan, but in no way Hardline (is that still a thing?), Think more along the lines of Chokehold and less so Statement haha. In my hometown of Santa Cruz, we have no hardcore or straightedge scene, forcing me to make one, if not only for my own sanity. In Your Blood is just another brick is that road.
